COMMON PLACES WHERE ASBESTOS IS FOUND IN THE HOME

From the 1940s through the late 1970s, asbestos was widely used in construction materials due to its insulating and fire-retardant properties. If there’s any chance that your home contains asbestos, it’s essential to be cautious when working on any repairs or remodels.

Asbestos can be hard to spot. That said, it’s more likely to exist in specific areas. Asbestos can be found in the following places:

• Vermiculite / Home insulation
• Vinyl floor tiles
• Floor mastic
• Hot water and steam pipes
• Boilers
• Duct work
• Roofing
• Siding
• Joint compound

Homeowners are urged to be proactive about locating asbestos-containing materials. While they’re not immediately hazardous, they can become hazardous if the asbestos-containing material becomes damaged.
